Large Red Damselfly
The Large Red Damselfly (Pyrrhosoma nymphula) is normally the first damselfly to emerge each year. A relatively common insect, they disperse widely and are sometimes found in gardens some distance from water.

Identification
The only damselfly that might be confused with the large red is the Small Red damselfly, and that is only found in one site in Norfolk.
