Holt Lowes

An exceptional site, accessed via Holt Country park. This is a heathland site of special scientific interest (SSSI) - it is the main location for Keeled Skimmers and hosts a small population of Scarce Emerald damselflies.

Holt Country Park is located on the B1149 just South of Holt. There is a pay and display car park and toilets.

From the car park head to the Southern end of the park and the pond. This is good for Emperor and Broad-bodied chaser. Continue from the pond, through the gate and up the hill to the observation tower. This gives good views over the Lowes themselves, as they slope down the valley to the Glaven. Go through the gate by the tower to enter the Lowes. The best location is to the South-East where a small stream runs down the slope, collecting in a number of boggy pools. Look here for Keeled Skimmers flying over the heath.
